How to book appointment in passport seva portal? Top 10 points to keep in mind

Booked my appointment in passport seva portal in my second attempt. Please read and follow the following
I assume that the passport application is filled and submitted.

Login before 30 minutes of the given time mentioned in the website

You can have multiple sessions, i.e you can open 3 tabs in the browser and login with the same id and try to book appointment from all the 3 tabs. If one sessions fails, you can quickly utilise the next one.

Go to the appointment page and keep entering the captcha code(alphabets and numbers shown in the picture) repeatedly. This is because, your session needs to be active till the given time. If you are idle, you will not be able to login during the peak traffic time

Be clear about the letter ‘I’ and number ’1′ in the captcha code. Somebody else will book your slot if you make mistake in this captcha during the peak traffic time . So, be careful

The appointments gets released at the exact time mentioned by the government. For Coimbatore slot, it got released by 4pm. Note that, slots gets booked within 5 minutes. You need to careful as well as fast

In the booking page, there will be a text box where you need to enter the captcha code and the at the end of the page, there will be a list of appointment time slots that is available. Enter the captcha code first.

Sometimes, captcha picture will not load, be patient. Try to use high speed internet connection.

There will be a list of slots mentioned like 9.15 – 10, 10.15 – 11 something like this. Target to select the last available slot as most of the people would likely hit first subsequent slots.

If you click on the first subsequent slots, you might end up with a message like ‘this slot is already booked’ and you will not be able to relogin again

You need to enter the captcha code correctly and click the time slot link at the end of the page

The next page will also be a confirmation page where you need to enter the captcha code again. Be fast and correct as far as you can.

They have built a good style for appointment but actually their online appointment booking process is a crap. I’ve tried about 20-30 days for booking a slot. But failed.

Join the club of frustrated people. We Indians have a strange way to encourage bribery. Now after struggling for 5 days have landed up to the conclusion, what are my alternates, is there anyway I can stand in the queue at the passport office from early morning or get an agent and pay someone….. see…that’s what they are getting at, how do I make people pay below the table more and more… frustrate them for their basic needs and they would as well end up. I tried being a Gandhi, but for basic items, I am pushed. Sorry I have given up on this online. Going for in person submitting.. wherever it takes me, God save me. Made a complaint in the passport site though. Now making more noise outside where ever possible, hope something changes.
Online appointment for PSK is NOT suitable for developing country like ours. More over the slot remains open for ONE MINUTE only. As Prabha mentioned you have to keep on typing the CAPTCHA code 20 minutes before the slot allotment time. I hope the Ministry of External Affairs understands the difficulties of an ordinary citizen to get a passport by online, PSK system. I suggested to the ministry to let the PSK do all job and collect a fee for getting an appointment from the applicant.This method will fetch revenue for the government and also avoid one going to the agent/brokers who charge heavily, having nexus with passport officials.

Sir,i need to book appointment. When i clicked on available slots…it opened a page showing around 27/08 to 4/09 where i found only 1 day available i.e. on 29/08.Due to some reasons i couldn’t book on that day. When i opened the next day exactly at specified time…i still saw 29/08 available and to my shock..on 5/09 there were no slots available!how come? Here is what i did:
>Strted app 10 mins(s),before the slot opens.
>opened multiple(3) tabs
>Type captcha for appointment before 5 min(FROM 5.55 PM,at 6 pm(slot for marathahalli PSK opens)
)and submit.
Obvious …it will say/display “slot not open/not available”
Retry above step every 10-15 sec FROM 5.55 PM,at 6 pm(slot for marathahalli PSK opened)
(keep doing that,even when it says “slot not available,try aftr 6 pm)…the slot opens and SELECT SLOT AND TYPE CAPTCHA QUCKLIY AND SUBMIT ….
To my luck,in 2 tabs i got the slot….booked one slot/appointment…

Hi, the secrets to get passport slot succussfully are given below.
1) It is like a running race. Who ever runs fast he will win the race.
2) To win the race the pre-requisites are
a) Laptop with latest configuration
b) 3g internet data connection.
c) Should have laptop battery backup for > 1 hour.
3) Go to the Cell phone tower of your service provider near your place having 3g capacity tower.

Hi all – I’ve got appointment on the first try itself. All you need to do is:
1) close all other activities in your laptop/Pc
if the site request is rotating for a long time > 30 secs, open another session in another browser and check you sometimes may have landed up an appointment already
2) fast internet connection is must – if you are office goer, be in office at that time since it will be the fastest network you can afford
3) you have to wait on the login page after giving all details: give user ID in page 1, in page 2, give password & captcha and wait
4) sync website time & system time
5) exactly at the slot time click login.
6) select psk details and enter captcha
7) when you need to select the slot, select the middle most – after noon.

added to what prabha and girish said above…i would suggest to login early and keep on trying for appointment even the slot is not opened so that you get familiar with the process and be ready when the clock ticks the time to book appointments. by doing this you will know what error you might do. and prevent it at the time of appointment.
would suggest to try from a desktop computer and use a convention key board which every one is very familiar. every second counts while you book the appointment.

Launch of Online Payment System for Passport Applicants
Dehradun, May 31, 2013: With the establishment of Passport Seva Kendra in Dehradun under the
jurisdiction of RPO Dehradun, MEA has taken assertive steps to deliver passport services to citizens in a
timely, transparent, more accessible and reliable manner.
Reviewing the operations over the last one year, it was observed that large numbers of applicants were
not turning up at the PSKs despite taking valid appointment. This was not only resulting in lesser
utilization of processing capacity of the PSK, but was also causing denial of appointments for other
genuine applicants. To resolve the issue of non availability of appointments and to reduce no-shows of
applicants, Ministry has launched online payment system for booking appointments. Dehradun RPO has
been chosen as pilot location to launch the online payment system.
With launch of online payment based appointments, applicants will be required to make payment at the
time of booking appointment on the MEA website. With this, only genuine applicants will book the
appointment and number of no-shows will reduce. Under the new process, payments can be made
while booking an appointment on the website – http://www.passportindia.gov.in either by Credit /Debit card
(both Master and Visa) or internet Banking of State Bank of India. Applicants can also use the Challan
option provided on the website and deposit the money in State Bank of India (SBI) branch after
generating Challan online. In such cases, upon the confirmation of payment receipt by SBI in online
system, applicants can take appointment. Further, instead of applicant choosing the date and time slot
of appointment, system will automatically give earliest available appointment.
Online payment system will be applicable for taking appointments for Dehradun PSK wef 1st June 2013
onwards.
The new system will be gradually rolled out to all PSKs across the country in coming weeks.
As part of MEA’s e-Governance initiatives, the Passport Seva Project (PSP) has transformed the passport
issuance system across India through an increased network of 77 PSKs. The Ministry is improving
governance in Passport Offices by focusing on citizen-centricity, service orientation and transparency.
Other benefits of the Passport Seva Project include:
• Longer working hours to benefit the citizens.
• 24*7 Call Center Support in 17 languages
• Complete digitization and processing of application when applicant visits the PSK, reducing the
overall time spent and eliminating multiple visits
• Biometric data and photographs taken in highly secure environment
• Granting decision taken in front of the applicant, therefore greater transparency
• Citizens leave the PSK with certainty on the status of their application
• Transparency in the process and online real-time availability of data for ease of monitoring and
